with me if you will our GRREAT dogs before they become GRREAT
dogs. Yes, some do come from good homes that are unable to continue
their care but a large percentage of these Goldens come with
a less than ideal past. Running wild, searching for food, chained
outside, and/or neglected, is a more accurate picture of these
dogs. How important is nutrition for these dogs? Very important.
The diet
of these Golden citizens needs to be handled carefully and on
an individual basis. They need good quality food and only the
appropriate quantity of food. A premium quality food such as
Pro Plan or Science Diet is recommended for these dogs. They
need a food that is well balanced, nutritious, and easily digested
in order to get them back to good physical health. This food
has high quality meat-less carbohydrate fillers and just the
right amount of fat for skin and hair coat. These foods are more
completely digested by the dogs; therefore less volume needs
to be fed and they also produce less stool while on this food.
Once these
dogs are adopted into permanent homes they may not need to continue
these diets. Again, each dog is an individual and their diet
should be tailored to their individual needs.
