Household Medications For Pets

These are household medications that you can use for your pet in an emergency. Please seek veterinary help as soon as possible.

  • Buffered Aspirin: used as an anti-inflammatory or for pain relief. Give 5 mg. per lb. every 12 hours.
  • Benadryl: used to treat allergies and itching. Give 1 to 2 mg per lb. every 8 hours.
  • Dramamine: used to reduce car sickness. Give up to 50 mg every 8 hours.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide 3%: used to induce vomiting after an accidental ingestion of poison. Give 10 ml by mouth every 15 mins.
  • Pepto Bismol: used to relieve diarrhea, stomach gas, or vomiting. Give 1 tsp. per 5 lbs. every 6 hours.
  • Mineral oil: used to eliminate constipation. Give up to 4 tbs. daily.
